CHALLENGE
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a long-term chronic disease characterized by the deterioration of cartilage in joints which results in bones rubbing together and creating stiffness, pain and impaired movement. The disease most commonly affects the joints in the knees, hands and hips.
Approximately 500 million people suffer from osteoarthritis worldwide, and by 2040, it will affect 1.9 billion people.
As the leading cause of permanent disability, osteoarthritis still has no cure.
Considered a serious disease, OA affects mobility, increases the risk of heart disease, can lead to depression and severely affect people’s quality of life.
